Summer Reading Programs Spark Joy Across Communities

As the sun shines brighter and the days grow longer, libraries and community centers across the region are opening their doors to children of all ages for a summer of reading and discovery. With a diverse array of programs designed to ignite young imaginations, local institutions are offering a treasure trove of activities that promise to make this summer unforgettable. Best of all, they are free to the public!


From storytime sessions and craft workshops to interactive performances and educational excursions, these summer reading programs are more than just a way to keep kids occupied—they are a gateway to adventure and learning. Each event is crafted to foster a love of reading, promote literacy, and build community, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to explore new worlds through books and creative play.



MOSS Kids Books Schedule in the Twin Counties

  • Friday-Saturday, June 14-15: Rocky Mount Juneteenth Community Empowerment Festival. Click HERE for more information.

  • Wednesday, June 19: Tarboro-Edgecombe’s Juneteenth Festival. This celebration will feature book giveaways and a special storytime event for children.

  • Sunday, June 30 at 2 PM: MOSS Kids Book Club meets at Larema Coffee in downtown Rocky Mount. Join us for an afternoon of fun and reading!



Braswell Library Events

Weekly Story Time

Join us for our engaging Story Time sessions in the Story Time Room within Youth Services! Each week features a new topic to delight our young attendees. 

When: Every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. 


Bookmobile at Miracle Park

Visit the Braswell Memorial Bookmobile at Miracle Park in Nash County (3501 Joyner Rd, Elm City, NC 27822).

Ripe for Revival Events

Join Ripe for Revival for Beyond the Book, a series of engaging activities including storytime, taste tests, crafts, and fitness sessions suitable for all ages. These events are free and open to the public, offering a fantastic opportunity for families to enjoy quality time together.

Nash Community College- Nighthawk Young Readers Summer Storytime

The Library at Nash Community College is excited to host our second annual Nighthawk Young Readers Summer Storytime. This event is open to all young children in Nash County and promises engaging and fun-filled mornings with stories that inspire a love for reading.


When: Tuesday and Friday mornings in June and July, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
