As National Nonprofit Day approaches on August 17, it's a time to honor the organizations that make a profound impact on our community. In the Twin Counties, several nonprofits are working tirelessly to address critical issues, from food insecurity and housing to education and disability services. Among these dedicated organizations are Ripe for Revival, Building Shalom, Peacemakers, and TCI - Tri County Industries, each bringing unique and transformative solutions to the challenges faced by our region.
Ripe for Revival: Nourishing Communities, One Mobile Market at a Time
Ripe for Revival, based in Rocky Mount, is on a mission to combat food insecurity in eastern North Carolina. This innovative nonprofit ensures that fresh, nutritious food is accessible to everyone, particularly in underserved communities. Through their Mobile Markets across the state and various food distribution initiatives, Ripe for Revival supports local farmers while providing healthy food options to those in need. Building Shalom: Transforming Blighted Neighborhoods into Thriving Communities
Building Shalom is dedicated to revitalizing blighted communities, with a primary focus on the South Rocky Mount neighborhood. This nonprofit takes a holistic approach to housing and neighborhood development, addressing both the physical and socio-economic challenges that contribute to poverty and decay of structures with incredible potential. Their Homeownership Program, a 12-month journey, guides individuals and families through the process of becoming homeowners, empowering residents, fostering a resilient community, and giving citizens opportunities they may have not had access to/knowledge about otherwise. Peacemakers: Restoring Communities Through Education and Compassion
Peacemakers is a Christian community development organization serving the under-resourced area of South Rocky Mount. Their mission is to partner with local residents to provide exceptional educational opportunities that promote self-sustainability and family flourishing. Through initiatives like Freedom School, the Christmas Toy Store, and Southside Academy, Peacemakers works to tangibly demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ, with the ultimate goal of complete community restoration. Their efforts are transforming lives and contributing to the long-term well-being of the South Rocky Mount community. TCI - Tri County Industries: Empowering Individuals Through Work and Inclusion
TCI - Tri County Industries (TCI Works) has been a beacon of hope and empowerment for people with disabilities or disadvantages since 1966. This unique organization blends private enterprise, government funding, and dedicated employees to provide rehabilitation services that enhance lives through work assessment, job training, and job placement. TCI’s vision is to foster inclusivity and empowerment by offering tailored support and opportunities, promoting self-advocacy, and cultivating a community where every individual can reach their full potential.
