After-School Programs and Extracurricular Activities for Kids in the Twin Counties

As summer comes to a close, parents in the Twin Counties are turning their attention to after-school programs and extracurricular activities that will keep their children engaged, active, and learning during the school year. Fortunately, the Twin Counties offer a wide range of options catering to various interests, from sports and arts to leadership development.


City of Rocky Mount Fall Youth Sports


For young athletes looking to develop their endurance and running skills, the City of Rocky Mount is offering a new Youth Cross Country program. Open to children and teens ages 6-18, this program meets 2-3 nights a week at the Rocky Mount Sports Complex. Participants will practice during the week and compete in matches on weekends, with some travel required. Registration is open until September 13, with a fee of $35 for city residents and $52 for non-residents.


Also under the umbrella of the City of Rocky Mount, Fall Girls Softball 8U, Youth Fall Baseball ages 3-12, and Hot Shot Soccer ages 4-6 and 10-15 are great options for kids looking to improve their teamwork and athleticism. These programs are designed to teach the fundamentals of each sport while providing a fun and supportive environment for young players. Dance Arts of Rocky Mount


For children interested in the performing arts, Dance Arts of Rocky Mount offers classes for kids from ages 2 through 12th grade. Whether your child is a budding ballerina or a hip-hop enthusiast, Dance Arts provides a range of classes designed to nurture their creativity and build their skills. Art Afterschool at the Imperial Centre


The Imperial Centre for the Arts & Sciences in Rocky Mount hosts an Art Afterschool program for children ages 5-12. This program is perfect for young artists looking to explore different mediums and techniques in a structured, creative environment. The Imperial Centre’s program aims to cultivate a love for the arts while allowing kids to express themselves freely. The Boys and Girls Club of the Tar River Region


For a well-rounded after-school experience, The Boys and Girls Club of the Tar River Region offers a variety of programs for kids ages 5-18. From homework help, to sports, arts, and leadership activities, the Boys and Girls Club provides a safe and supportive environment where children can thrive. Nash County Parks & Recreation Programs


Nash County Parks & Recreation also offers several youth sports programs. There are currently spots available for Youth Softball for ages 13-16 and a Futsal Program for boys ages 10-12. These programs emphasize skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship, making them excellent choices for kids who enjoy staying active and competitive. Girl Scouts of the NC Coastal Pines


For girls looking to build confidence, make new friends, and take on new challenges, the Girl Scouts of the NC Coastal Pines is an excellent option. Through a variety of activities, from outdoor adventures to community service projects, the Girl Scouts provide opportunities for personal growth and leadership development. Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America


Similarly, the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America offer programs for boys interested in outdoor adventures, community service, and leadership skills.
