2nd Annual Trivia Championship Supports Southside Academy

TWIN COUNTY MEDIA

Do you have what it takes to become Rocky Mount’s trivia master? The chance to assemble a team of four and prove your skill is just around the corner. Southside Academy is hosting the 2nd Annual Rocky Mount Trivia Championship on Friday, February 9 at 7 p.m. at Rise Church (3520 Bishop Rd, Rocky Mount). Over 300 people are expected to compete in this year’s contest.

This annual event offers a fun time while providing funding for Southside Academy, a private school serving low-income families in the area. In addition to the trivia competition, there will be a silent auction, desserts, and a coffee bar to enjoy.

Sign up now to participate. Individual tickets are $25 or you can purchase a team ticket for four players for $100. Southside Academy is still looking for donations of items valued above $100 for the silent auction.

The trivia competition will have five rounds of ten questions from a variety of categories. First place will receive a cash prize of $500. Second and third place will win $250 and $100 respectively. Fourth and 5th place will each receive gift cards.

Executive Directory of Peacemakers Jesse Lewis, says everyone is welcome to the event, “Even if folks don't think they know a lot of trivia, they shouldn't worry – everyone writes down answers as a team, so no one is singled out. It is a really fun evening!”

The silent auction will begin on January 17, and it will feature a variety of gift cards, vacations, Carolina Hurricanes tickets, Durham Bulls tickets, and much more.

Last year’s trivia competition was challenging, featuring 36 teams, but nearly twice that many teams are expected to compete this year! In addition to the cash prize, the winning team will certainly earn bragging rights as Rocky Mount’s Trivia Champion.

If you would like to attend the event without participating, those tickets are $20.

Southside Academy was established by Peacemakers several years ago, growing out of their after-school program with a desire to provide quality education to students in underserved communities.

The funds raised by the event will go toward helping the school accomplish its mission by covering the operating costs of Southside Academy, including providing tuition for the students at the school.

Lewis said, “Our scholars have benefited from Southside through their knowledge and understanding of who God is, and actually applying that knowledge to their lives.  We have also seen tremendous growth in both math and reading scores so far this year. We have a community of staff members and volunteers who work diligently every day to ensure our scholars receive the best Christian education.”

Applications are open at Southside Academy for the 2024-2025 school year for Kindergarten through 3rd grade.
